Making a Difference: Meet Oliver

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.”
-Matthew 19:14

Happy New year! Can you believe it is 2019? We are rejoicing on all God has done last year! In 2018, we held 5 camps for children ages 6-18, served more than 1,000 children, opened the new Lifeline Pregnancy Resource Center, Hesed Interventional Homes, and seen God grow our impact in East Austin.

East Austin has 11 low-income and Section 8 apartment communities. There are roughly 4,264 adults and 2,132 children total in these communities! As the needs of those stuck in the cycle of poverty are great, we believe by mobilizing God’s people can help move people from crises to sustainability. Mission: Possible! Austin is unique as we are able to successfully reach people no matter what age. Together, we believe we can break the cycle of poverty one life at a time.  Your giving helps us continue to help children and families like Oliver.

Oliver and Jonathan at Camp Nikos

Oliver and his family moved to the United States from The Congo. Oliver and his family made a huge life change to a new culture in a new country. Now living in Section 8 housing, Oliver was young and had no connections. He and his family quickly met Mission: Possible! Austin through their Big Fish Club. In Big Fish Club, Oliver began learning about Jesus, meeting Christian mentors, and started attending Camp Nikos. It was through Camp Nikos where Oliver heard the Gospel and received Jesus as his Savior!

Today, Oliver continues to attend Big Fish Club and Camp Nikos. His mentors will take Oliver and his brother to Eastside Community Church which meets at Mission: Possible! Austin’s main building on 12th & Chicon. Oliver’s life has forever been changed, and it all started when volunteers knocked on his door and invited him to Big Fish Club!
