Church Under The Bridge

Church Under the Bridge (CUB) takes place at 7th St and IH-35 on Sunday mornings. You will find live music, testimonies of changes lives, and a down-to-earth message for Austin's street population. Church Under the Bridge is a place where the Body of Christ in Austin can build relationships with those living on the streets. Volunteers at CUB tangibly demonstrate the love of God to others through a corporate worship time, the provision of hot meals, clothing, blankets and sleeping bags. CUB meets every Sunday morning at 7th Street and IH-35 across from the police station. The service starts at 10 a.m.  Lunch is served one time per month at 12:30 p.m.

Change Under the Bridge

If you have followed the Church Under the Bridge (CUB) ministry for any period of time, then you know that change comes quite frequently.  Over the nearly 15 years of ministry, we have learned to be flexible to what the Lord is doing.  We have moved locations several times, gone through challenges with the city and more recently; we have been working to comply with the health department.  Every time, the Lord has proven faithful through the changes.  The interesting thing about change is that although the result can be good, the transition is difficult and not well received.  As we at Mission Possible (MP) have reviewed the last years at CUB, we have seen the need for some changes in format to better enable it to accomplish the mission and vision of MP.  Recently, a number of volunteers have expressed concern about the food service at CUB and that it has become a distraction to the relational ministry that is intended to go on there.  For many volunteers, it has become difficult to minister to others because of the demands of the food service and compliance with health department rules.  In addition, there are a large number of people on the street who come and go only for the food with no interest in relationship.  These concerns are in line with what MP has seen as needs within the CUB ministry.  In light of these things and with permission from the Lord, we will begin in February to serve the meal on a monthly basis rather than a weekly basis.  All volunteers, as well as participating churches, will still come regularly, but we will not serve lunch every single week.  This will not only take a significant logistical burden off of the volunteers, but it will also give them the opportunity to be with the people and build relationships with them.  We will then enjoy lunch corporately one time per month.  We will be continuing to meet every week and have seasonal services and meals such as the Great Thanksgiving Banquet.  Please pray for us as we move through this time of transition and that the Lord will raise up Believers who will invest their lives in the lives of the homeless.
