Church Under the Bridge
If you have lived in Austin for long you have probably seen a number of people living on the street. Austin is home to over 6000 homeless people and this is a growing number. The issue of homelessness is a hot topic both politically and within the church. There are many opinions about the homeless, but most people have had very little or no personal interaction with people living on the street. As believers, we know that it is our responsibility to show the love of Christ to all people, no matter who they are or what their background is. We currently have two ongoing ministries to people on the street, Church Under the Bridge (CUB) and the relationships that continue “Beyond the Bridge”. There is a Tuesday Night Fellowship at Gandalfs Prayer Cafe where relationships formed at CUB can be further developed. “Church Under the Bridge” is a combined effort of churches from all over the Austin area serving the homeless. Volunteers at CUB tangibly demonstrate the love of God to the people living on our streets through the provision of hot meals, clothing, blankets and sleeping bags. CUB now meets every Sunday morning at 7th Street and IH-35 across from the police station. The service starts at 10 a.m.
