Frequently Asked Questions
How is Mission: Possible! funded?
Mission Possible is a faith-based non-profit 501c-3 organization. We are currently funded by the donations of churches, individuals, private business and corporations. From its conception, MPA has not allowed its core values and Judeo-Christian world-view to be compromised or diluted by receiving some outside sources.
MPA currently operates with a small staff that mobilizes hundreds of volunteers. This ratio enables us to impact many people with a relatively small budget. Our administrative costs are kept below 15% because the majority of staff invest most of their time in grass roots efforts, ministering directly in and through our programs.
How do I get involved?
This is a question that we get from a lot of folks. The best way to get personally involved with Mission: Possible! Austin is to first look at the variety of programs and ministries that we offer. Then, consider your own God-given gifts and where they might be used best. If you have already considered those things then contact us and let us know what program or ministry you would like to participate in.
How long has Mission: Possible! Austin been around?
Mission: Possible! Austin started in 1992 and was organized as a non-profit 501c-3 in 1996. Its genesis was as a "grass roots" ministry led by a few faithful servants who were dedicated to serving the needs of the "forgotten" communities of our city.
The ministry began first as a vehicle for taking the Gospel to the Children living in inner-city communities as well as the homeless through "Church Under the Bridge". It has since grown and prospered, and has now expanded to include a diverse family of Christ-centered programs that give every believer an opportunity to participate in a mission to East Austin. (a community as foreign, both culturally and economically to us as a country halfway around the world.)
Does this ministry really have an impact?
In short, the answer is yes, but the better question is, "What kind of impact does a ministry like this have?" To answer both questions, the majority of the impact is long term. That means that it takes years of committed relationship to accomplish life change with people. Having existed for over 10 years, Mission: Possible Austin has been blessed to see some of the fruit of its labors, such as individual confessions of faith leading to a relationship with Jesus Christ, victory over various addictions, job placement, and even saved lives. All in all, the impact is long term and the life change is eternal.
So, why do you do this, what do you get out of it?
This is a question that we have been asked by the local media on several occasions. Our answer has been and remains that we are fulfilling (obeying) a Biblical mandate to care for the poor among us. Each person on staff with Mission: Possible Austin has been obedient to this call on their life. We also believe that we are fulfilling the "Samaria" portion of the great commission given to us by Jesus. We also would have to admit that doing these things is also deeply gratifying to our souls. It is truly a pleasure to serve the Living God through this ministry.
