Community Preservation Alliance
The purpose of the Community Preservation Alliance (CPA) is to build relationships with residents in the East Austin area by assisting them in basic home repairs such as plumbing, painting, and carpentry at no cost. This program relies totally on believers who are willing to invest their time, talent and resources in to the lives of those living in East Austin so that the hope of Christ might be made known to them.
WHY IS CPA NEEDED?
There is an urgent need to address the escalating rehabilitation and repair costs, which are forcing low income, elderly and disabled people to live in homes that are ill-equipped for their circumstances and often are unlivable.
WHAT REPAIRS ARE DONE?
Repairs may include carpentry, plumbing, electrical, plastering, painting, glazing, weather-stripping, security improvements, trash removal and cleaning, at no cost to the homeowner. The focus of our work is functionality and safety, not beautification.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
Low-income families, elderly and disabled homeowners who are unable to do such work themselves and subsist on a fixed or lower income are eligible, as are community non-profit agencies that serve these populations. Referrals come from neighbors, churches, community service centers, and support agencies.
WHO COMPLETES THE PROJECTS?
Believers from all over the city come together to complete these projects. Sometimes the work groups are made up from folks from different areas of the city and many other times a group signs up together to complete the project. Anyone 14 and older can participate in the projects.
HOW ARE THE PROJECTS FUNDED?
The projects are funded by the people in the work group. We also accept sponsorships and grants come from corporations, individuals, labor organizations, foundations, civic organizations, and religious institutions that want to help the most vulnerable members of our community.
