B.A.G.S.
Bringing Assistance with Grace & Service
The purpose of the B.A.G.S. program is to give believers in Austin the opportunity to build relationships with residents in the East Austin area by providing basic provisions such as food and other essentials. This program relies totally on believers who are willing to invest their time, talent and resources in to the lives of those living in East Austin so that the hope of Christ might be made known to them.
Why is B.A.G.S. needed?
There are currently many social programs addressing this need, however, when resources are given without personal relationship it can lead to an entitlement mentality and eventually rob participants of the dignity of providing for their family. Our heart is not focused on simply providing the resource but on engaging with the people and living as the light of the world.
Who is eligible?
Initially, we want to assist those who are home bound, disabled, or on fixed income. By providing these services we believe that we will be able to meet a need that is being overlooked in many cases.
How does the program work?
Mission: Possible! gets food and other items from the Austin Area Foodbank as well as donations from individuals and organizations. We invite believers from around the city to "adopt" one or more families in the community and make home visits to distribute the goods as well as spend time with those living in the home.
How many families receive goods?
The number of families served by the B.A.G.S. program is only limited by the number of believers willing to invest in their lives. We only take on additional families if there is someone who is willing to serve them through the program.
When does the program run?
The program currently runs on the last two Thursdays of the month from 1-4pm.
