The Potter’s Hand
Recognizing one’s relation to God is paramount if one is to be transformed by God. Isaiah 64:8 says, “O Lord, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are the work of your hand.”
Our desire, through The Potter’s Hand Art Center, is to help individuals recognize their need for God in their lives, and His ability to shape and mold them into something beautiful. It is to be more than
just a place where individuals can express their creativity. Instead it is a place where individuals can realize their true identity.
Someone, when speaking of art, once said, “by its very nature, it must be representative of a deeper reality.” Whether it is a beautiful landscape, a person modeling for a portrait, or a snapshot of the stars above, all are recreating what God has already deemed “good.” Therefore, all art is a reflection of the beauty of God’s creation.
The Potter’s Hand will connect individuals from the Body of Christ to individuals in Austin’s urban community who share an interest in visual arts. Through various classes and studio time volunteers should begin to develop relationships with the participants in the studio. Volunteers should help the participants develop their art, but more so should invest in the participants lives to help facilitate transformation, always pointing them to God. Our hope is that not only would the participant’s life be transformed, but also that the volunteer’s life would be transformed through the relationship.
